Geocache Description:

Lost Falls of Vandermark Creek

Have you ever had a secret? It’s time to share mine.

This is not a cache and dash. Get out of the car, grab your bug spray, water bottle, your picnic lunch and your best geocaching buddy and let’s go.

This is truly a sight to be seen. All kidding aside, very few people have ever seen these falls. They are back in the woods and it’s a good hike. Please do not try to navigate the stream from the river. It may seem shorter however it crosses much private land and this is the easier way. That’s why few have ever seen them.

The first leg takes you over a snowmobile trail. It is damp in the off season. The second leg from 5 Maples to near GZ for The Lost Falls of Vandermark Creek is through planted Red Pine and scattered hardwoods. There is very little understory so the walking is good (no more mud). When you get to the “Big Gully”, you are getting warm. Look for the dead fallen Beech tree near the edge of the gully. This is where the terrain gets my 4. No special equipment is necessary except some good hiking boots. Pick your own path and keep to the left on the way down. If you get to the private land you’ve gone too far. The coords are a little bouncy down in here but you’ll find it. When you find the ammo can your close. I couldn’t put the cache in the creek at the falls you’ll see there is no place. So now that you have come all this way, PLEASE go the rest of the way down to the creek bed and walk upstream about 100 yards. You will NOT be sorry you made the trip.

For parking see Red Pine Toy Box GC1X2E9

The difficulty of the hide is 1. The last 200 yards gets the 4 terrain. I want you to find your way to these falls so the caches are all easy along the way.

Use your own discretion regarding the weather. Please do not attempt in the winter once snow is on.

****Congratulations to Cayuga Crew for FTF****
