A second cache in a very interesting place.
Originally it was thought that the slumped and creviced ground was formed during an earthquake. However, the distinctive landscape reflects a major landslide many thousands of years ago. A hugh block of limestone nearest the road moved northwards, perhaps on a weak underlying layer. In turn, the central block of limestone dropped downwards becoming deeply fissured against its neighbours. The southern block of limestone stayed in place, forming steep cliffs from which hugh blocks have tumbled. Strata visible here include the thick Otekaike Limestone and the thinnerunderlying Kokoamu Greensand. Time span Late Oligocene time, 23 - 28 million years ago. Please be extremely careful on the sight as there a many deep fractures to the ground surface. The cache is a 50ml screw top container.
