Geocache Description:

Easy cache in Northeast El Paso especially designed for elderly, handicapped, and small children.

Cache is back in place!

This cache is located on private property with permission. Cachers are permitted on the premises. Please show your appreciation - remember, Cache In, Trash Out!

The Old Glory Memorial in Northeast El Paso is part of the Flags Across America Project. The flag was originally erected "to honor all those who serve our country and to those that have given their lives in the name of the freedoms we enjoy every day." The flag flown on good weather days is a 40 foot by 80 foot flag; the flag pole is 180 feet tall. During stormy or windy conditions, the flag is replaced with a smaller flag to avoid damage. The flag flies 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. It is lighted at night.

During special events, the flag is encircled at its base by 50 4x6 foot flags of the states. Eventually, the memorial will be encircled by 50 trees and 50 benches, also representing the 50 states.

The Old Glory Memorial was dedicated in December of 2003. Since that time, the organization has been approached by groups wanting to place additional memorials on the site. The first of these, the William Haddad World War II Memorial, was dedicated on Sep. 2, 2009 - the anniversary of the end of WWII.

This cache was designed especially for elderly, handicapped, and cachers with young children. Although paths are not paved, they are hard-packed and should not present much of a problem to those in wheelchairs, however the last few feet might present a problem to the wheelchair-bound. (Please give me feedback on this if you find it not the case.) Introduce your kids to caching by giving them the GPS and letting them find the cache! The site can be busy at times and is located near a busy intersection, so stealth is required.

Cache is an approximately 2 gallon container filled with goodies of a patriotic theme in keeping with the location. FTF gets a 3' x 5' American flag.

Please take care to not damage the "camo." The "lid" comes off in one piece.

Congrats to SC Giants for FTF (and beating Birddroppings!)
