Shelby Park was a greatly admired part of East Nashville in earlier
times. With the help of the community it is regaining it's
standing. A well-known Shelby Park landmark was a full-size Dutch
windmill which stood majestically atop Windmill Hill. The old
windmill was said to have burned in the early 1940's, but the stone
steps are still visible leading up the the hilltop on which it
stood. You won't find the old windmill but you could find a cache
with the right technology in hand and some geosenses.
To get to Windmill Hill, take Shelby Ave east to 19th. Turn
right and continue on 19th to a "T" intersection at Electric Ave.
Turn left on Electric Ave. Windmill Hill will be on your left just
after entering the park.
Please read: Please stay on trails to
and from cache locations.
Some of the trails may be seasonally wet. Do
not disturb wildlife, or plants.
When finding this cache, please leave only
family friendly contents. These caches will likely be used for
educational purposes for GIS students and will introduce them to
the sport of Geocaching. Let's make a good impression.
As always remember Cache In Trash Out. I will
try to keep trash bags in the cache containers for your
use.
We currently have a great working
relationship with Metro Parks and the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center,
so please respect the park hours and the above guidelines when
searching so we can continue this.
Shelby Park and Bottoms is open 7 days a week
from daylight until dusk.
