Geocache Description:

One of a series caches at mile intervals along the Ouse Valley Way

The River Great Ouse flows from its source near Brackley to the sea at King's Lynn, running through Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk. Work is in progress on the Ouse Valley Way to open a network of footpaths along this magnificent river from 'source to sea' - making this route one of the longest river valley walks in Britain. The first section of the Ouse Valley Way walk opened in 1990 in the district of Huntingdonshire, and the whole route was formally opened in May 2004.

Mile Marker # 79 is one of a series of caches being placed along this official Long Distance Footpath. The idea is to encourage more people to explore the walking equivalent of motorways, "speeding" the walker from start to finish (in this case from Syresham near Brackley to Kings Lynn). However, the entire walk can be broken down into day walks using public transport.

This series was started by, and is being managed by The Red Duke and if you could add to this please contact The Red Duke via Geocaching.com so he can co-ordinate things.

The cache can be easily reached from the Paxton Pits Nature Reserve where there is a car park, toilets and refreshments. This is a great area for wildlife with a number of lakes with birdwatching hides.

Another way would be to park in Huntingdon, take the 66 Stagecoach bus to Little Paxton and walk back to Huntingdon (about 9 miles) along the Ouse Valley Way.

If you are walking the whole route please let us know in your log message.

This cache is a disguised metal tube situated well above the flood level. It's held in place by wire; please leave the wire attached and access the log by unscrewing the base of the tube. Tweezers may be useful.
