Welcome to Chapel Hill "The Old Cemetery". I have walked these sacred grounds a few times, and have found stones that go back to 1812, and there may be some that are earlier than that. If you find the residence of Mr. James Samuel, just off the lawn on the north edge at the east end you will see what I mean. Apparently, the quarry work behind this cemetery to the north may have had something to do with the sadly stacked stones in the weeds behind Mr. Samuel. You may, if you look, find that "Little Eva" also resides here. General Mills is here too--General William Mills and his wife, that is. They built the beautiful Mills mansion at the north end of Main Street in Mt. Morris. This has been turned into a museum which is open on Fridays and Saturdays. Wonderful narrated tours are given by the lovely lady that cares for the place. I highly recommend it. Please be respectful here and don't bother any stones. The cache is well away from them. As usual, NO NIGHT CACHING please. Parking may be a little iffy. I just pulled up in front of the brick recieving vault when there. The other alternative would be to park on one of the side streets and take the short walk up to the cemetery. Be careful of traffic. Chapel Street is a busy street. There is no parking allowed on Chapel Street in the vicinity of the cemetery. I'm sure you will be as struck as I was when you experience, as I did, the sights and things that can happen to these small sacred places over the span of a couple of hundred years. There will be a "Lucky" duece for the FTF. Enjoy your dose of the past here and thanks for stopping by.
