Geocache Description:

This is a series of 12 caches situated on the Dava Way. (From Forres to Dava) This cache site is made of loose gravel stones and is suitable for buggies and wheelchairs.there is No log book in this nano please log visit by post here thanks .

About the whole series:-
The Dava Way is a 23 mile (36 km) trail across the ancient Celtic province of Morayshire that links the historic towns of Forres and Grantown-on-Spey. All of the route follows the old Highland Railway line and is off road and safe from traffic. It is an unusually varied railway walk that winds its way from sea level to 1050 feet (320 metres). Along its length it passes through a pleasing mix of farmland, woodland and moorland as you journey from Forres to across the Dava Moor this variety makes the Dava Way path one of the best long distance walking paths or cycling routes in Scotland. It provides an important link between the Moray Firth Trail to the north and the Speyside Way in the south. This beautiful part of North East Scotland has much to offer the visitor and is still relatively undiscovered by walkers and outdoor enthusiasts. On a clear day as you cross Dava moor you are rewarded with views to the north over the shire counties of Nairn, Inverness, Moray, Ross & Cromarty, and Sutherland whilst to the south the Cromdale Hills and the Cairngorm Mountains dominate the skyline. We are focusing on the Forres to Dava section which comes on 2 maps Forres to Dunphail (visit link) for caches 1-9. Caches 10-12 are from the Dunphail to Dava map (visit link)

The path is made of loose gravel stones at the beginning as well as some grassy forest parts that become quite muddy after heavy rain. It is (mostly) a flat walk/cycle, with only one slight slope along a disused old railway line ( with no train tracks). So okay for sturdy buggies in some places, but is mostly a good rambling and cycling trail (mountain bike tyres would be best as it gets muddy and single track at times). For horse riding on the trail leading to Grantown-on-Spey, please check the M.E.A.G. www.meag.org.uk for detours over the weaker or walking only bridges. The full walk to Grantown is 28 miles.

The part we are focusing on is from Forres to Dava and is 22.8km. For short cuts you can use the various car parks along the A940 near the Dava Way track and walk from there, though we suggest that you will miss the best views as far to Black isle and across the Morayshire forests and further across the moors at Dava. (Unless of course it’s a foul weather day!)

To get to the start of the series, parking is at the Sanquhar Wood Mountain Bike Car Park. To get there take Mannachie Rd from Forres towards Dallas Dhu distillery. Turn left at the Sanquhar Mains Private Road Sign ( it isn't private anymore but they haven't changed the sign yet) and drive down the road over the bridge turn left at the junction and you are in the Sanquhar Woods Mountain Bike car park. There are lots of easy and flowing mountan bike trails here as well as a jump section.

This 1st cache of 12 is a .....NANO! It is near the bridge and steps you need to take to go down to the Dava Way.
