Geocache Description:

Another in the Kill Creek Park series. Had to come out to do maintenance on a cache, so we placed some more while we were here.

This is a Johnson County Parks & Recreation District park located in western Johnson County between De Soto and Olathe. It is the newest and third regional park in the District’s system. Opened in 2001 the park, easily accessible and yet secluded, encompasses 884 acres. Nestled within the park's beautiful natural setting are four picnic shelters, a swimming beach, a marina, and 17 miles of trails including hiking, mountain bike and equestrian trails and an asphalt trail for walking, hiking and bicycling. All of these caches are placed with District permission and comply with District guidelines. Park hours are 5am to 11pm for March through October and 7:30am to 8pm for November through February.

The Kill Creek Park entrance is located near 116th and Homestead Lane. To get to the park, get off of Kansas Highway 10 at the Kill Creek exit and proceed south to 115th Street. Turn right and go to Homestead Lane. Take a left onto Homestead and the park entrance is on the right near the crest of the first hill. The nearest parking for this cache is the lot at Shelter No. 1. Please note that dogs are welcome in this park, but they must be on a leash; another cacher found out the hard way: it's a $40 fine.

If you cannot deal with TICKS, you might not want go into this park until winter. Where deer are abundant, ticks are more so. However, since this cache is just off the paved walking/biking trail, you might, with a good cover of bug repellant, get away without an encounter. If you like the "natural setting", you will love this park. The downside is that during warm weather, there is always a good chance of encountering ticks.

Of course, PI, snakes and mosquitoes may also be around during warm weather.

This cache is a painted screw-top plastic container, lots of room for tradeables and trackables. Averaged over 300 readings, but it was a cloudy day under a canopy. So if you get different coords with good accuracy, please send them to us.

A micro Compass Rose geocoin for FTF.
