Geocache Description:

During the 1970's a large earth walled dam was constructed in the Nkwaleni Valley to the north of Eshowe. At the time this was the largest earth walled dam in the southern hemisphere.

All the staff where housed in Eshowe in a suburb of prefabricated houses during the several years of construction. After the completion of the dam most of the small temporary town was removed however approximately a third of the houses were left and donated to the Moth (Memorial Order of Tin Hats) organisation. Looking to the south from the cache site one can see the clear lower section of a hill where the houses were with the remaining "Moth Cottages" at the top of the hill. The road that winds up the hill to the south east from the cache is all that is now left of the infrastructure.
