Geocache Description:

This is a traditional Cache in flat terrain, accessible by short walk.

Right here, you will find a rectangular shaped meadow which is embedded in the surrounding coniferous forest (“Nadelwald”) of the Weikendorfer Remise, linking Gänserndorf, Straßhof, Weikendorf, Untersiebenbrunn and Schönfeld. This is kind of remarkable, because in most parts of Weinviertel you will find mixed forest or deciduous forest (“Laubwald”).

In fact, the area is the “älteste Naturschutzgebiet Österreichs”,declared in 1927! I checked it myself, it is true. Even for me, as a born native Marchfeld citizen, a big surprise. So, those stunning landscapes in alpine regions, like Glaciers, mountain lakes and 10.000 feet summits, took second place (at least in this point of view).

Do not expect spectacular or even breathtaking natural wonders, like the ones mentioned above. The fascination of this place is soft, sedate, maybe “unterschwellig”. You have to experience it in slow motion. Sharpen your senses – otherwise you will miss too much. You may also want to cross the meadow or take a small rest between the blades of the high grass. Yes, you definitely want that.

The spot itself has sometimes been misused by me and my friends as a place for young boy climbing skill competitions. Till today, severe accidents have not been reported.

"Grandpa, may Clara and I look around for some new geocaching spots?" - "Heidi, I told you, this kind of modern outdoor activity is a waste of time. You guys do better staying here and enjoy the beauty of the landscape without geek toys."

The cache location is almost accessible by car (2WD, moderate clearance vehicle), but I think, I made myself clear and advise you to go by foot. Suggested parking coordinates: N 48°18.325, E 16°44.317. This leads to 30min roundtrip time – a small walk – worth every single minute.

If you want to extend the walk to a Sunday afternoon hike, you can start from opposite the old “Safaripark Parkplatz”: N 48°17.997, E 16°42.515 (edit: needs to be double checked, because of the new "Umfahrungsstrasse"). This goes for a 2h rectangular roundtrip. You don’t need a map. There are several trails, tracks and dustroads. Just go 30minutes East, 15 min North, detour the Cache Location, then another 15 minutes North (Turn left at the above given Coordinates for the Cache-Nearby-Parking Place), 30 Minutes West (passing the AspacherHof Pony Ranch), and then back to your car in southern direction.

------- reload: We are deeply grateful for reinstalling the cache. This was done by donhelmi and froggyclaudia under permission of the cache owner, who was still in geocache hibernation and too lazy to do it himself.
