Geocache Description:

Bernal Park - Nice park with a bit of history, check out the link above, see who our parks are named after!

I was interested in the history of this park after I checked out the flag and plaque near the playground. My family comes here to hang out all of the time, thought it is interesting at how/where/who we are all linked with! Enjoy the cache, it is a "cammo" Altoids container, with Silver duct tape (go guess why it's Silver). Think 3rd base line! You probobly can't get to it from sitting, but don't need to lay down either! Please take care on re-hiding! As this is in a park, there are always people around, and the park is closed at night, enjoy the hunt!

History: A boy named Raymond Bernal Jr., and his father decided to help create a little league at the baseball diamond here on Mission and 7th Street. This Little League is still around today, with children still playing ball on the field! Raymond Bernal grew up, and served his country in the Vietnam war, where he was killed in action in 1966. This park was re-dedicated to Raymond Bernal in the Winter of 2004! Take a look at the Northside Neighborhood Associations newsletter which has an article on the dedication. If you want to venture across the park to the flag next to the playground on the Hedding side, then you can see a plaque.

To have an idea, a dream, take action to make change, and for your dream to live on beyond your life, is a beautiful thing, which I applaud! What a great neighborhood!
