The cache is located at Laugafell in the highland about 60 km south of Akureyri. 4WD vehicle is mandatory.
Laugafell is a nice place in the highland south of Akureyri. It is accessible via highland roads F752, F821 or F881. Driving via F821 from Akureyri or via F881 from Sprengisandur/F26 no deep rivers have to be crossed. Nevertheless 4WD is absolutely neccessary as the tracks are very rocky. From Akureyri it took us nearly three hours to get there!
There are some hot springs in the area and a geothermal pool for cosy bathing. The pool belongs to a hut driven by the Akureyri Touring Club ( Ferðafelag Akureyrar).
The Cache is located some hundred meters from the hut behind one of the hot springs. Once you are at Laugafell, the cache is easy accessible, i.e. terrain rating 2.Rating 5 refers to the fact, that you need a 4WD vehicle to get there.
Iceland is a fascinating country. After two weeks vacation and some great cache findings I could not resist the temptation to deposit this vacation cache. I intend to maintain the cache in the course of future summer holidays in Iceland. I anticipate, there‘ll be many of them. However, that seems not to be sufficient. According to Groundspeak‘s maintenance guideline I‘m supposed to make an arrangement with a local geocacher. If someone could offer help in case of short-term problems, please let me know.
