First I have to thank "Preisl" for the idea to this cache hunt. The "Cellonstollen" was built in 1916 for reaching the eastern positions on the "Cellonschulter". It's length is 183m and the difference in height is 110m. Austrian army mountain guides reconstructed the gallery in 1986/1987. Nowadays climbing the "Cellonstollen" is more like an adventure in a very beautiful mountain. Especially for the children it's a great challenge and for the adults it's also a nice preparation for the "Via ferrata Steinberger Weg" (difficulty B/C) or the "Via ferrata senza confini" (difficulty D) which lead you to the summit of the Cellon. For reaching the entrance of the gallery you have to follow a short and steep path for about 25 minutes. This is also part of the "Geo-Trail Naturpfad-Plöckenpass 2" which informs you from the beginning of the universe up to the life on earth. The path starts at N46° 36.247 E012° 56.731 and you will reach the entrance of the gallery at N46° 36.345 E012° 56.555. Don't forget your headlamps and please use a helmet and preferably an equipment for fixed rope routes, the path is sometimes very slippery. After coming out of the "Cellonstollen" you will find stones with amazing eluviations and you can start the last part of the cache hunt. For returning to the car you will have to use the trail up to N46° 36.320 E012° 56.345 where you can decide to take the "Via ferrata Steinberger Weg"/"Via ferrata senza confini" or the hiking trail through tunnels to the "Ploeckenpass".
