Now a nano - please watch out for muggles - this one goes missing on a regular basis

Dating from Elizabethan times with modern enlargements, the Guildhall can be hired for functions, and provides interesting tours which include the Mayors Parlour and the Ancient Court Room. The illustrative panels and artifacts dating back to the 13th century in the Museum allow you to discover the story of Sandwich from Medieval times.

The privileges obtained by the Cinque Ports were set down in a series of Royal Charters. The last one granted by Charles II in 1668, can be seen in the Guildhall, Sandwich.
1. Exemption from Tax and Tali.
2. Right to levy tolls.
3. Right to local self-government.
4. Authority to compel holders of stolen goods to divulge their source.
5. Authority to punish shedders of blood and seize those who fled from justice.
6. Authority to punish minor offences.
7. Power to detain and execute felons both inside and outside the Ports jurisdiction.
8. Authority to try breeches of the King's Peace.
9. Right to take lost or unclaimed goods after one year and one day.
10. Power to claim floating wreckage on the shore or goods thrown overboard.
11. Right to land at Great Yarmouth - a fishing port on the east coast - and to dry and mend nets and sell fish.

The alliance between the other important ports of Hastings, Rye, Hythe and Dover lead to the formation of the Cinque Ports which in return for providing ships and seamen were granted many privileges and freedoms. Tax and toll free trading was permitted and the five towns had their own courts to deal with their own affairs. Associated with the Cinque Ports were 30 Limbs. Deal, Ramsgate, Brightlingsea, Fordwich and Sarre which were limbs of Sandwich. A ceremony is held in the ancient Courtroom in the Guildhall every year where the remaining as the Sandwich Limbs, Brightlingsea, Fordwich and Sarre. Each Year a ceremony is held for receiving the allegiance of the three remaining as the Sandwich Limbs, Brightlingsea, Fordwich and Sarre. The elected Mayor Deputies receive their chain of office and as a token of their allegiance, each Mayor Deputy pays "Ship Money" to the Mayor of Sandwich. The Mayor Deputy of Brightlingsea pays 10 shillings (50p), the Mayor Deputy of Fordwich pays 3 shillings and 4 pence (17p) and the Mayor Deputy of Sarre always pleads poverty because they are only a very small village.

You are looking for a nano so bring your own pen. Take care as this is a busy muggle area used for markets and as the bus station - hence the difficulty. This has been muggled several times recently so I have relocated to a second nearby site which is hopefully safer for the cache. Please take care

This is cache #4 of 5 sited around Sandwich. Collect all of the clues and see if you can find the bonus cache which is sited a couple of miles out of town
