Geocache Description:

OPERATUNNELEN
Østgående løp i senketunnelen åpnet 26. april 2010 kl 06.51!

English
The cache is a 10 x 2 x 0,8 cm plastic box wrapped in black tape with log book and a short pencil, placed inside a hole in an old concrete wall. Please remember to hide the cache well, when logged.

Potentially high-muggled area, but show a little patience and wait your turn. Please observe: Do not approach the fence itself. The cache is on the lefthand side of the bicycle path, facing uphill (there may be needles and syringes in the grass up towards the fence; hence this warning).

The sound barrier was broken on 14th October 1947 - but this "sound barrier" shields buildings and bicycle road from the noise from the - right here - seven-lane wide E6 that passes just behind the wall. The 831 metre long Vålerenga tunnel is a stone throw's distance down the road. It was opened in 1989, finally providing air and tranquility for Vålerenga - parts of which were among the worst-affected traffic areas in Norway prior to the tunnel. The 1,583 metre long Ekeberg tunnel at the other end of the Vålerenga tunnel was opened in 1995, and the next step is being finalized in these days, with the 1,100 metre long Bjørvika underwater tunnel in front of the Oslo Opera House, of which 675 metres are made up of sunken-tunnel sections with its roof about ten metres below sea level - but that is a story for a cache downtown.

THE OPERA TUNNEL
The tunnel in front of the Opera opened on 26th April 2010 at 06.51 AM, eastward direction. The entire tunnel system, excluding the Vålerenga tunnel but including the Festningstunnel from Havnelageret to Filipstad, is called Operatunnelen - The Opera Tunnel - officially opened by HM King Harald V on 17th Septemer 2010 and open to the public from 5:30 AM on Monday 20t September. The tunnel system will be finished by the spring 2012, when the entry- and exit roads at Havnelageret just west of the Opera house are planned to be completed.
