Iain Banks is a Scottish writer who, as Iain M Bank, writes some of the best Science Fiction around. The IMB series of caches are named for the titles of his SF works.
‘Excession’ is a about the events that unfold when a perfect Black Body object suddenly appears at the edge of known space. This totally inexplicable object, which rebuffs all attempts to probe it, is the Excession – a set of circumstances totally outside our knowledge and experience or an Outside Context Problem (an OCP). After nearly provoking an inter-species space war the Excession mysteriously disappears.
The cache is located at a place that is the home of a population of our own Western Australian excession, the Black Swan which baffled early settlers here.
The cache is a small Sistema plastic container.
