C is for CITO (Events) Cache In Trash Out® Event

This cache has been archived.

Aberwak: It was a great event, even considering the weather. It started out a bit confusing because I wasn't all that clear about where to meet (whoops). Once we got everyone together, things were good for a while. About a dozen people showed up. It started out a bit cloudy and cold... and got worse. After the first hour to hour and a half, it started raining. Shortly after that, our group was diminished to half. The crazy folk continued for a while until we were all soaking and couldn't stand it any more. We had to stop a bit earlier (10:30-ish, if I recall?) than what I was hoping for, had the weather cooperated, but we picked up a LOT of trash.

Thanks to everyone who was out there helping - great job! Thanks to Geokitty for handing out ammo cans. Thanks to the NMSU Geography Club for coming out to help. Hopefully they'll be joining the ranks of geocaching soon. I'd also like to thank Keep Las Cruces Beautiful for providing the trashbags, gloves (they were there just in case, but knowing geocachers, weren't really needed), and trash pickup.

Geocache Description:

It's time to help clean up Las Cruces by practicing "Cache In, Trash Out" (CITO).
  • Date: October 3, 2009
  • Time:: 8:00 am
  • Location:: Triviz draining area vacant lot (near Triviz and Fairfax see below for meeting area).

This event is done in cooperation with Keep Las Cruces Beautiful and will be listed as a National Public Lands Day event. While normally that day is held on September 26, that date also corresponds with The Whole Enchilada Fiesta. In hopes of gaining a bigger crowd, the clean-up event is the following week.

We'll meet up at the top of the dam, near the end of Madrid, starting about 8:00. Note: As I understand it, materials (gloves, trash bags, and maybe water) will be provided by Keep Las Cruces Beautiful. Please keep this on your watch list in case there are any changes.
