Eshowe has for many decades been one of the few places north of Durban with a quality 18 hole municipal golf course. Some years ago when the future of the 18 hole course was in jeopardy a group of local businessmen got together and managed to purchase the golf course.
Their vision was a eco golf estate in the fullest sense of the word. Even the electric fence poles have got a special plastic lower cover to stop the endangered dwarf chameleon being harmed.
Eshowe Hills was planned and developed with the object of enhancing and improving the natural environment. No natural forest areas were destroyed. More than 3000 indigenous trees have been planted since the project commenced while alien species, such as gum trees, have been, or are in the process of being, eradicated.
Bush buck, Blue Duiker, Wild Pigs and porcupine can be seen at Eshowe Hills as well as other species of small game. This is done under the auspices of the Kwazulu Natal Wildlife Association.
This geocache is placed outside the estate near the entrance. Stealth will have to be used during busy times of the day.
