This cache has been archived.

Growly Bear: As this cache has been out of action for too long, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

A slightly different kind of multi cache. The starting location is at the DeMolen Windmill, which is an iconic landmark of Foxton. (Accuracy of GZ coordinates +/- 3m).

History
The DeMolen windmill opened on 13 April 2003. It was built and managed by volunteers from within the Foxton community, and it is run by a charitable trust organisation. The windmill is a full-size working 17th century dutch windmill, grinding stone to make flour. The upper floors can be accessed via charged tours (at reasonable prices). The ground floor is free entry during the opening hours (Monday to Sunday from 10am - 4pm). In there you will find a wealth of information about the windmill and its history. It also contains a shop that sells souveneirs and authentic dutch products.

Finding the cache.
You can choose between one of two methods with which to determine the final coordinates. Either of these methods will provide you with the information you need to find the cache.

The first method involves answering questions within the windmill itself. The windmill is open Monday to Sunday 10am - 4pm so you must be there within these times in order to get inside.

The second method involves answering questions on the outside of the windmill. This method is available at any time you choose.

Method 1: Inside the windmill.
There is a black cash-box under the first floor stairs of the windmill. It contains the coordinates to the final. The cash-box is locked using a combination lock. You must answer the following questions by reading the informational posters on the ground floor of the windmill to determine the combination to the cash-box.

A = In the poster about The Four-Runs-Mill near Zevenhuizen: What is the first number on the second line? Note that you are looking for 2 digits, and the title doesn't count as the first line.
B = In the poster about Windmills On Crete: How many sails are on the windmill?
C = In the poster about The Corn Mill in the Province of Karasani: What are the first two digits of the first number on the 4th line? Note that the title doesn't count as the first line.

Checksum=6: To calculate the checksum, add all of the individual digits until you get a single number.

Within the cash-box is also a stash of lollipops. Feel free to have one, but please limit yourself to one lollipop per cacher. If the lollipops are getting low, let me know in your log and I can top them up again.

The windmill staff are fully aware of the cash-box and how geocaching works. You can take the cash-box outside of the windmill to peruse the contents on one of the picnic tables if you like - or sit on the stairs if the windmill isn't busy. If their are other customers in the windmill, I recommend you take the cash-box outside - just let the windmill staff know that you are a geocacher. They are expecting the cash-box to wander in and out of the windmill.

Please use some common sense when retrieving the cash-box as you are within a commercial building.

Method 2: Outside the windmill.
If you are caching during a time that is outside of the windmill opening hours, or you would rather not go inside, answer the following questions to determine the coordinates to the cache. All questions will be answered by looking around the outside of the windmill.

The cache is located at S40 28.LMN, E175 16.XYZ where:
L = There is a sign in the ground near the NW side of the windmill (by the Mitre10 carpark). How many letters are on the second word of this sign?
M = The round(ish) table in the courtyard near the murals has how many sides? (i.e. what shape is it)
N = There is a millstone with a plaque on it. On the plaque, what is the second digit for the year the mill was built?
X = How many numbered murals are in the enclosed area next to the windmill?
Y = There is a sign in the flax garden in front of the windmill. Subtract the number of words in the first line from the number of words in the second line.
Z = In the courtyard near the mural there are some concrete squares. How many different (distinct) colours of squares are there?

Checksum=32. Calculate the checksum by adding all of the numbers together.

The cache.
The cache is a 200ml sistema container and contains a logbook, pencil and the usual trinkets. Please use stealth when retrieving the cache as we don't want it to get muggled.
