Grand Memories Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
PLEASE NOTE - THERE IS NO NEED TO WALK ON OR STEP ON ANYTHING THAT IS GROWING TO FIND THIS CONTAINER AND YOU WILL NEED SOMETHING TO SIGN YOUR NAME WITH.
This cache is placed in an older park that probably holds memories for many folks in the Valley.
October 2014-
We have had to move the location for our container - it kept going to school for 'show and tell' with neighbourhood children. Waiting them out and a considerable number of replacements did not seem to guarantee there would be a container at the previous location for you to find.
This new location still gives you a view of the park - just from a different angle. My memories are still in place and if you grew up here, perhaps you have memories of your own. Want to share? We would love to read them.
You might have a little black muggle watch you here. Someone has put a feeding station for a squirrel in a nearby tree and you might see a few peanuts sitting there - or maybe the squirrel is higher up the tree eating them. We did NOT put the peanut holder there, you will see why I mention this when you come to search.
AGAIN - NO NEED TO TRAMPLE ANYTHING TO FIND THIS CONTAINER, BYOP.
***** Original cache page information follows- it still applies to this location (it's not very far away) *****
Do you remember the May Day parades through town that ended here with a ceremony to crown the May Day queen? I do because I was a 6 year old flower girl for the queen one year ---never mind which year!! The many ball games that were played here packed the grandstands (that was before TV came to the Valley). Did you swim in the outdoor pool that was here? Imagine, ten cents for a whole afternoon or evening of swimming - and they even had swim lessons in the mornings. Circus fun was enjoyed here along with many other community events of Port Alberni before it grew, before it amalgamated with the city of Alberni after our tsunami of 1964.
This cache should not take you long to find, and as usual my request to becareful of the cache holder and the surrounding area. If you manage to park where we did, (what...you weren't watching??) you could be almost muggle free -and at times that could be difficult.
FTF but no room for trades, bringing your own wriing stick would be helpful because there isn't one there!
Congratulations to Port Eagleeye and Team Pawz for a shared FTF
