This cache is hidden along a section of the Airline Trail in Pomfret, CT. The Mashamoquet Brook crosses under the old railroad bed at this point. I estimate the elevation difference from the trail to the stream bed to be about 40-50 ft with a steep angle of descent on loose soil. Therefore, I do not recommend descending to the stream bed on either side unless you are very sure of your abilities! Use your own judgment and keep an eye on children. I have added pictures of views from both sides of the structure. The south view was taken 4 years ago during a very dry season. (I was searching for a letterbox at the time) The north view was taken recently . The water was about 2 feet deep and there was no shoreline access which explains the "close-up" shot.
This section of the trail is in very good condition with a few wet spots. The scenic portions can be tough to view during the foliage season. The trail is suitable for biking as well as cross-country skiing.
Note: The bridge crossing the Mashamoquet Brook at Covell Rd was closed to traffic at the time this cache was published.
