På 1730-talet händer saker som får stor betydelse för Strömsund. Det stora intresset för bergsbruk sammanfaller med att investeringsvilligt kapital och kunnande finns tillgängligt. Nya näringar ska ge utveckling i trakten, där bondenäringen är allenarådande. Under bara några år byggdes Råneverken upp. Ägaren byggde sitt säte i Melderstein två mil uppefter Råneälven. Malm från Gällivare och nybyggd hytta med masugn i Strömsund blev polerna i verksamheten. Malmen fraktades på ackjor dragna av renar ner till masugnen i Strömsund vid havet. Tackjärnet från masugnen transporterades uppåt Råneälven till hamrarna i Melderstein. Verksamheten lades ner på 1820-talet. Idag finns det en camping och kursgård, Strömsundshemmet (visit link) där bruksgården låg. Vintertid kan man med snöskoter åka efter denna malmtransportled, Malmensled, från Malmberget till Strömsund. Detta är alltså Malmensleds slutstation.
During the 1730´s things begin to happen that are going to mean great changes for Strömsund. New industries in combination with farming will give development and cement this far flung outpost to the Swedish state. Under just a short period the company of Råneverken is established. The owner builds his lodge in Melderstein just 20 kilometers up the Råneå River. Iron ore of excellent quality from Gällivare and the newly built blast furnace at Strömsund will be the focus of the companies operations. Iron ore is transported by Reindeer sleigh from Gällivare to the coast at Strömsund. Iron billets are then transported up the Råneå river to the hammer mill at Melderstein. In the year 1812 the company was placed in recievership and today there is a camping and conference centre, Strömsundshemmet (visit link) where the mansion were placed. In wintertime, you can travel along the historical ore trail, Malmensled, with snowmobile from Malmberget to Strömsund. This is the endpoint of Malmensled.
