Geocache Description:

Located in the Cambridge area a quick drive by with a history lesson.

On the 3rd of November 1886 Henry Reynolds produced the first butter here at the Pukekura Creamery. This was on the family farm and on that 1st day they got 100lbs of butter from 400 cows.

By the end of the 1880s Reynolds and his partners had factories thoughout the Waikato and Bay of Plenty and were exporting butter to China Hong Kong and England.

In 1893 it became part of the New Zealand Co Operative Dairy Company (NZ Co-op DC). The company continued to grow and in 1939 had 36 suppliers and made 562,000lb of butter and cheese.

By 1961 the 40 suppliers made 1million pounds of butterfat.

In 1975 this orginal factory closed as alot of smaller factories amalgamated. The anchor symbol can still be seen on the end of the building.

The anchor which is still a symbol on butter today was a tattoo design that Henry Reynolds saw on the arm on one of his workers back in 1886.

To find the cache there is no need to cross the fence.
