This was a very cool Park n' Grab, if I do say so myself ;-). The eagle nest was hard to see in the summer, except from the spot right exactly next to GZ. Then it was gone...what a bummer, it was huge and totally cool. Check out the pics I'd posted when I first placed it. Anyway, it has been replaced, the eagles are building a new one in the same spot!
The drive along Hwy 61 is a beautifully scenic one, with neat and unusual sights and stops along the way.
This is one of them. There are several cemeteries here, and a few geocaches in addition to this one.
Just west of Minnieska (this is part of where the Mississippi flows from west to east rather than north to south) in a tree stand along the north side of the highway is a Bald Eagle nest. A few years ago this nest was HUGE, pretty much a landmark along the highway. Then it fell down after a severe wind storm, the main supporting branch apparently giving way. A year ago I thought I saw something of a nest being built, and this year it is much larger. It is quite noticeable in the winter but pretty well obscured by trees in the summer, except for the spot where this geocache is located. The view of the nest is the cool part of this P&G. This is just a few miles upriver from the geocaches at John Latsch State Park, where there are several other caches to seek. One of them involves a hike up the bluff stairs but ends in a neat spot.
You are seeking a 1/2 gallon-sized (or so) camo-covered plastic container filled with various swag and the obligatory log book
Original contents include an inflatable rock guitar, original ball & jax, a few other trinkets and a "National Wildlife Refuge Blue Goose- Eagle's Nest" geocoin.
