Geocache Description:

Information

As of March 2009, 'Harlow Town' was officially rebranded as 'Harlow Sculpture Town'. The aims of this were to emulate the former name of 'Harlow New Town', whilst also promoting the large collection of public sculpture housed within the town. The collection of sculptures on display includes work by major international sculptors such as August Rodin, Henry Moore, Elizabeth Frink and Barbara Hepworth, amongst others.

This cache aims to highlight just a few (8) of the sculptures that many people may walk past on a daily basis, but who have never taken the time to stop and investigate.

There are over 65 sculptures on display publically all around Harlow, some small, some considerably larger, The following map illustrates the locations of all of the sculptures within Harlow. The following site will give further information on the individual pieces of art themselves.

Cache Information

The coordinates listed above are not the cache location, but are the entrance for the closest car parking available. There is a small parking charge payable (Mon-Fri: 80p, Sat: £1.20p & Sun: 20p, for up to 2 hours parking).

To find the location of the cache itself, and subsequently the key to finding the cache at the location, you will need to gather some information from the plaques on several of the sculptures around the town centre.

The route is circular in design and the distance from the car park, around the sculptures, to the cache location and back to the car park is a maximum of 1.5km

The final location is within a building, which is open to everyone for free, 7 days a week, but can only be accessed during the following hours;

PLEASE NOTE! The final location has recently changed its opening hours to no longer be open on Wednesday or Sunday. Please take this into consideration when completing this geocache.
  • Monday: 09:00 - 19:00
  • Tuesday: 09:00 - 19:00
  • Wednesday: Closed
  • Thursday: 09:00 - 19:00
  • Friday: 09:00 - 19:00
  • Saturday: 09:00 - 17:00
  • Sunday: Closed
The staff at the final location are aware of the cache, but please try to keep any disruption to a minimum, as it could potentially be a muggle rich environment, so stealth may be required when retrieving the cache.

Final Location

After gathering the information above you will be able to complete the following; which will give you the co-ordinates of the entrance to the building in which the cache is hidden.

N 51° (e)(f+g).(h)(i)(d)
E 000° (m)(r).(o-n)(b)(g+h)

Once in the building you will need to use the numbers obtained to fill in the following; this will be the key to finding the cache at the GZ.

(b-a)(q)(e+h+i) . (p)(c)

As previously mentioned the GZ could potentially be a Muggle Rich Environment, so please exercise caution and stealth when retrieving/replacing the cache, and try to keep any disruption to a minimum, this will hopefully mean that the cache will remain undiscovered, ready for future geoachers to find.
