Water only access cache located on a small island on Gun Lake.
The cache itself is a small ammo box, located on an island in the southern end of Gun Lake located in the Frost Centre area of the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails http://www.algonquinhighlands.ca/water/index.html for more details on the area). To get to Gun Lake, put in at the Herb Lake Access point about 10km east of Dorset on Route 8 at N45 14.852 W078 47.707. Travel south on Herb Lake into Ernest Lake and portage out the far end past Brandy Falls into Gun Lake. The trip involves 2 portages (72m and 175m), and three lift-over’s depending on water levels. Take some time to tour the area, there a few little side routes to explore off of Gun & Herb Lakes. There are also three other geocaches, “Herb Lake Cache”, “Brandy Falls” & “Rocky Wilderness” to do along this route so make a day or weekend out of it! I hope you enjoy the area as much as I do, and please remember to Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly!
