Geocache Description:

This site of interest is at a height of 87m or 203ft and the views are splendid. There is parking at 56 25.373N 002 58.804W elev. 56m.

Enter the field and take a trodden path around the western edge for a short way to the hedgerow. Through the gap, follow the path up along the fence line until the flattened section of fence. Please don’t be tempted to climb the fence anywhere else – there’s no need. Cache is a small, black, locking container in a little hole under a small rock. You can sit on the grassy knoll above GZ, beside a wild rose bush, and take in the breath-taking view over Wormit Bay towards Perth and imagine a different mood in 1939-1943.

Contains log book and pencil, a repaired robin from St. Mary's Walk - Walled Garden and ‘silver’ necklace.

The Interest of the Site

There were a possible 3 searchlight batteries situated on the summit of Wormit Hill from 1939 to 1943. Visible today amongst the gorse and grass (and rabbit holes) at the above co-ordinates is a circular embanked enclosure which would have had a centrally placed installation within. It is likely they were searchlight platforms. By 1943 the positions had been abandoned and from then only the banked enclosures were visible.
This is a wonderful vantage point from which to view the area and other distant cache sites. There are no fences to climb if you approach from the parking place, no reason to rummage in gorse, no need to disturb any rocks or natural material and no nettles but do watch out for those pesky rabbit holes! - Happy days!
