Islands in the Stream Traditional Cache
BakedAlive: Geocache too accessible to vandals. Often gets moved/stolen from cache coordinates. Removing it to avoid disappointment to future "cachers."

Theme: "Things that keep you cool". Park in the small parking lot just south of the brige on Allen Rd (N 35° 20.629', W 119° 08.764'). Take the bike path west. Before long you'll realize you need to leave the path. The riverbed is dry and sandy 95% of the time, but if there is water please use common sense and caution! If there's water, save this one for another day.
If you've been in Bakersfield during the summer, you'll appreciate the theme of this cache. We can use all the "cool" we can get! The cache is fairly easy to get to. If you look directly at it, you'll see it, but it's not exactly out in the open! It's also camouflaged and only the top few inches of the container show. Access and terrain are easy, and the only reason I rated them as a level 2 is because it is sandy and you have to maneuver a bush or two.
The riverbed is almost always dry. I have lived here 20 years, and I've only seen water at this point in the river a few times. But, if there's water in the river when you're here, don't go in. The cache will still be here later... come back and try to find this one another day.
