Asopoitan is the sunken ancient city of Asopos, in Laconia, Southern Peloponnese.
In Plytra (or Plitra), in the region called ‘Kokkines’, exists the sunk city of Ancient Asopos', which the ruins are distinguished up to today with naked eye in the sea but also across the coastline.
Relics of the Roman town of Asopos, which very probably had been erected above the ruins of the ancient town of Asopos can be found in the same region.
The town was sunk at 365 BC after a very powerful earthquake.
The town of Asopos, member of the ‘Eleftherolakonon Commonwealth’, was an ancient pre-christian era town which provided a safe port and commercial station and had also its own currency with the sign ΑΣΩΠΕΙΤΑΝ (Asopitan).
It is marked that in a Decree of 1870 AC, about the approval of the town planning of Plytra, a layout of 9 building squares is remarked "ruins of ancient city".
The cache is placed carefully at the site, without having moved or destroyed anything on the roman walls. It is 10x10x5cm platic container with logbook, pncil, sharpener and little stuff to trade. When replacing please be extra careful!
Στην Πλύτρα, στην περιοχή Κόκκινες υπάρχει η αρχαία πόλη του Ασωπού, τα ερείπια της οποία φαίνονται τόσο μέσα στην θάλασσα όσο και παράκτια. Στην ίδια περιοχή υπάρχουν και τα ερείπια της Ρωμαϊκής πόλης του Ασωπού, η οποία πιθανότατα ήταν χτισμένη επάνω στην αρχαία πόλη.
Το 365 π.Χ. η πόλη καταστράφηκε απο μεγάλο σεισμό, και η περιοχή βυθίστηκε.
Η αρχαία πόλη, Προχριστιανικού και Πρωτοχριστιανικού κοινού των Ελευθερολακώνων, είχε το δικό της νόμισμα με την επιγραφη ΑΣΟΠΕΙΤΑΝ, το δικό της ασφαλές λιμάνι και τον εμπορικό της σταθμό.
Σημειώνεται επίσης οτι κατά τον σχεδιασμό της Πλύτρας στην σύγχρονη εποχή, ο 1870, 9 οικοδομικά τετράγωνα χαρακτηρίστηκαν "ερείπια αρχαίας πόλης".
Το cache τοποθετήθηκε στον χώρο με ιδιαίτερη προσοχή χωρις να μετακινηθεί ή να καταστραφεί κάποιο στοιχείο απο τα Ρωμαϊκά τείχη. Το κουτί είναι ενα ταπερ 10x10x5cm με logbook, μολύβι, ξύστρα και μικρά αντιείμενα για ανταλλαγή. Παρακαλείσθε να δώσετε μεγάλη προσοχή κατα την επανατοποθέτηση!
