GeoPeg: This has been a fun cache, but it is now time to end it. I moved to Tennessee in August and clearly can no longer maintain this cache.
Thank you all for coming out and making memories in the dead of night. Happy Caching!!

OK, so I was a little bit slow in getting around to celebrating my Friend’s 1K cache, so I just renamed things a bit. Welcome to the Basebell6 1.2K Night Cache at Quail Hollow State Park. Nick and Christy completed their one thousandth cache find in April of 2009, and rumor has it they both love night caches so this seemed to be a good fit! This cache has been approved by Todd Metz, ODNR State Parks. This five stage multi-cache will take you on a 2.6 mile hike starting at the mountain bike parking lot and ending near the visitor center. Another 0.4 miles will get you back to your car.
The coordinates at the top of this page are the starting point for this cache, with parking nearby. Take the walking trail NORTH from here. The four stages range in size from a pill bottle to a medium Lock n Lock container and all but one can hold some swaps – the final is a gold ammo can (recently changed to a Lock n Lock container) just waiting to be found! Each of the four stages will contain a letter and a number that will complete the coordinates to the final shown below. Bushwhacking will be required at each stage and the final. These trails will contain plenty of mud during or after a rain, and trust me, there is no shortage of skeeters and poison ivy in these woods!
Final Coordinates are N40 59.AB9 W81 18.CD6
Fire tacks will guide your way - The tacks are much less visible during the day but can easily be seen at night by holding your flashlight at eye level – headlamps work quite well. Look for two tacks, one directly on top of the other (vertical) to indicate “Follow this trail” The tacks may be yellow or white, no difference in meaning. At intersections on the trail, there will be a set of vertical tacks – just stop in the middle of each intersection and look around you for the tacks – they will let you know which trail to proceed on. When you see two tacks side-by-side (horizontal), this means you should enter the woods here, on the same side of the trail as the tacks. Proceed into the woods watching for more vertical tacks indicating “keep going this way”. When you see 3 tacks in a triangle, you are within 25 feet of the cache – just start looking! All hides are in “normal spots” in the woods....except for one...heh, heh, heh. When you have found each stage, go back out to the trail where you entered the woods and proceed from there. Two of the stages have additional instructions to make sure you don’t get lost! BEFORE LEAVING ANY TRAIL, MARK YOUR CURRENT LOCATION TO ALLOW A TRACK-BACK or at least turn on the tracks function (bread crumb trail) on your GPS to allow you to find your way back to the trail.
When you have completed the final, turn around and look for three Orange trail markers vertically aligned; they will guide you out of the woods and get you started back to your car. When you reach the PAVED trail, turn right to exit. As you are walking back to your car on the road, be very careful of traffic! It is highly recommended to wear reflective gear for the walk back to the car!
The Quail Hollow State Park closes at 11:00 pm, so plan on being out of the park by then! Take a print-out of this page with you in case a Ranger decides to ask what you’re doing in his woods late at night!
Park at the mountain bike parking area and proceed to the coordinates listed for this page to reach the start of this creepy, late night, deep-in-the-scary-woods cache.
