Geocache Description:

This small, but not micro, cache should be easy to find. I have named this cache after one of my grandchildren as well as after owls. I have seen a northern pygmy owl and a great horned owl very close to here. I have also heard a barred owl near here and word also has it that there are often a number of Brown Owls here too.

Camp Olave is also near here. It used to be the logging camp for the Rat Portage Lumber Company prior to it being bought by the Girl Guides. It was first pre-empted and then purchased by a W.L. Davis, possibly who Davis Bay was named after. It was first surveyed in June and August 1892 by John Strathern, PLS, and the survey plan he prepared is titled: “Plan of W.L. Davis Purchase Claim on Seachelt [sic] Peninsula, N.W.D.”. The 140 acre property was and still is known as District Lot 1541. District Lot 1491 to the west was owned by a family named Fraser and District Lot 1321 to the east was owned by a family named Moscrop. I am not sure when the Rat Portage Lumber Company took ownership of the property but the Girl Guides bought it in 1930 for the price of $10,000.00. That was also the first summer for campers at what was initially called Camp Brock, named after some of the early financiers. After a period of time, it became known as the Wilson Creek Camp until 1961 when it was renamed Camp Olave to honour, and with the permission of, Lady Olave Baden-Powell. Please bring your own pen or pencil. It should not be a difficult cache to locate and it has good parking. There may be a few muggles around in either brown or blue so please watch out for them.
