Located just off a gold field walking track, 10 minutes from carpark.
Track 96 is a historic walking track that in its heyday joined Gladstone (small township where the bridge stands today) to the goldfields of Lee's Creek, Granite Creek, Dargo and Talbotville.
Gladstone would have most likely been the town site today instead of Briagolong, but on Christmas Eve, 1868, fire razed the town completely destroying it. Gladstone was never rebuilt and everyone re-located to Top Plain to the south. Top Plain was later renamed Briagolong.
Track 96 commences just north of Blue Pool and continues to the south end of the Granit Creek goldfields. The estimated hiking time for this track is three days. The shorter option is to start at Blue Pool and walk along the Peregrine walk (cache along here too) and continue on to McKinnon Point (another cache) then on the return loop do this cache before back to the car at Blue Pool - about two and a half hours walk.
The other option is to park at the north side of the bridge and walk the track towards McKinnon Point for about 500 metres, 15 minutes to the cache. It is a 1.2l sistema container, painted and hidden reasonably well.
Please replce as found and enjoy this part of the world. More info from the DSE website - "Briagolong State Forest" is available and worth reading.
There are no toilets here but facilities just to the south at Blue Pool.
Enjoy.
