Geocache Description:

This cache is in honour of Matty Kingsbury, also known as Superman.

The cache has been placed in the rest area on the west side of the Aparima river, near Thornbury. The turn off is on the south side of the road, and goes under the bridge to the clearing on the other side, where the cache is. Camping and trout fishing are allowed here.

The cache is a 250ml container, painted grey with a red lid. Accuracy when placed was ±11m. Please replace carefully. Cache contains a log book and pencil, and badges for trading. Please trade with badges!

Thornbury is a small township en route from Invercargill to Otautau. The railway line from Invercargill once split at this town; one branch continued around the coast through Riverton to Tuatapere and Orawia (this branch was closed in 1978 and has since been removed), the other branch headed to the coal mines in Ohai through Otautau and Nightcaps. This branch is still operational, although the mines at Ohai have closed and coal is now mined at Nightcaps.

The Thornbury Vintage Tractor Museum can be found in Thornbury at S46º 17.278’ E168º 05.807’. The Museum is open every Sunday and Public Holiday from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, from Labour weekend until Queen's birthday weekend (summer months).
