This cache is a medium sized cammoed ziplock container hidden in a beautiful little park just off the rail trail. This is one of nature's little jewels that sits protected from development for all to enjoy. The first stretch takes you through a Sandhill restoration area. At the moment, you'll see a lot of laurel oaks that have invaded the area. Further on you will see the more sandhill typical long leaf pines and their attendant undergrowth. The sand here is loose and deep, so bikers will have to walk through. Next, the trail takes you throughh a xeric hammock. Xeric means dry, so the trees here are adapted to dry climate. The trail becomes more packed so bikers can resume their ride. Soon the trail leads you into the shady sanctuary of an upland mixed forest were you will pass a sinkhole pond and a clear creek off on a side trail. Coming back to the main trail you will cross over a little seepage stream via a little foot bridge. All along the trail there are strategically place benches where you can sit and enjoy the sounds of nature. Bring your binoculars for there are birds to see! The trail continues in a loop through more shady forest until it emerges again in the sandhill restoration area. The entire trail is but 1.5 miles long and a delightful stroll. I hiked this trail in September and found not one mosquito!
There will be several more caches along this trail. Happy hunting!
