Geocache Description:

One of a series of geocaches in upper Arana Gulch. Parking is available near Santa Cruz Gardens County Park

Topo Gigio

We discovered this beautiful loop trail while searching for cache-virgin territories in Santa Cruz. If you haven’t been here this hidden gem is quite a treat. The first part of the hike follows the creek that ultimately spills into Wood’s Lagoon. You will pass quite a variety of tree types here including an apple tree, which was bearing fruit the day we placed the caches.
The trail then climbs up the far side of the canyon offering surprising vistas of the canyon below and beyond. The upper part of the loop is a completely different experience than the lower half.

Getting There
The best bet for parking is near Santa Cruz Gardens County Park. From there walk north on Katherine taking the dirt road that parallels it past the gate. You do NOT need to enter the Chaminade grounds to get these caches. Follow the dirt road until you get to a spur on your left at N 37° 00.473 W 121° 58.574. Follow this down and take a right at the next intersection. From there follow the trail up the canyon as it winds along the creek. Stay on the main trail, it will complete the loop.
