This is a conservative cache. Conserving what Geocaching was in
the beginning. Dave Ulmer used a 5 gallon bucket for the very first
geocache so I figured why not? There were no nearby guardrails to
hug or lamppost to hide geo-trash under. It’s the same experience
here. I recommend getting enough hugs and grabs to last you for
about an hour while attempting this cache ‘cause ya ain’t getting’
no lovin’ up there.
This is about a 1.2 mile hike, uphill both ways. There is an old
road leading you right to it so it’s not that bad. Actually, a
small part of it is paved. The cache is hidden at the Gray Station
Quarry where you will see several large limestone mines that were
abandoned decades ago. It's hard to imagine that this area is still
publicly accessible. Once you find the cache, turn around and take
in the spectacular view.
I purposely did not place the cache underground in any of the
mines so there’s no need to go looking in there for the cache. I
also left the cache uncovered so you don’t have to turn over any
rocks and take a chance at finding a snake under one. Personally, I
hate when that happens. Enjoy the area, the view and the
workout.
There is hunting in the area and the area is patrolled by the PA
Game Commission so it would be wise to wear orange during hunting
season.
If anyone has some history on this spot please, please include
it in your log. Thanks for looking.
