This beach is a hidden gem - known to only a few who are prepared to head off onto 20km gravel road. Are you brave? try this real Kiwi camping experience without power, running water, or cellphone coverage!
Take a day out, head to Napenape and spend some time at this lovely beach. Previously a DOC camping area, the site was closed after the hillside slumped some years ago. Today the reserve area is fenced off, but able to be walked (be cautious if there has been a lot of rain as it is still considered unstable).
A short walk uphill and across will take you to a couple of old trees - happy hunting grounds!
For the adventurous, continue up the track to eventually come out at the top of the point where views to Motunau and the mouth of the Hurunui are visible on a fine day.
If you're prepared to rough it, consider camping - bring water, and your own cooking gear, and be aware: there are no toilet facilities!
The beach is not suitable for swimming, but is good for surf casting and if you're a diver (SCUBA or skin) there is good diving to be had after a few days of Nor'Westerly wind.
