High Street is the old Roman Road which ran from Penrith to Ambleside. This is the last hill at the north end and gives fantastic views over the Pennines, Penrith, the Caldbeck Fells and Blencathra, the Helvellyn ridge, and Ullswater snaking through the valley.
Heughscar Hill sits above the extensive area of Askham Fell, which is a wide plateau with numerous ancient marks of early settlements. The open, raised area gave plenty of room above the swampy valleys on either side. The hill and much of the fell is part of the ring of limestone that circles the Lakes and continues through Knipe Scar and Shap into the South Lakes.
This cache is a small L&L hidden in some limestone pavement which makes up the hill, patches of which show through the grass. Not too far away is the Cop Stone cache and the two are easily combined. Parking can be found as for the Cop Stone - follow the minor road out of Helton. You can also come up from the Pooley Bridge side. Many paths are bridleways and the area is a favourite haunt of mountain bikers, horse riders and walkers.
Do try and visit on a clear day so you can see the great views!
