Griffo the hobbit awoke very early one
morning to a loud banging on the door of his run down, cramped sod
hut. Who's bothering me now he thought? It's not even daylight yet!
Someone better have a good excuse for waking me this early, thought
the grumpy little hobbit. He swung open the small door with every
intention of screaming at whoever was standing at his door, but to
his surprise there was no one there. Hmmmph, he grumbled, those two
Mugwort children from over the hill, he thought, just
trying to get me fired up again! I'll be sure and march
over there at first light and give that mother of
their's a piece of my mind, he said to himself. Then he
noticed two small pieces of paper, one yellow and one white, neatly
folded and stuck in a crack of his dingy door. What's this, he
thought, not to sure if this may be another prank.
Many years ago, Griffo had built his little
sod hut over the hill from the main hobbit village in hopes of
getting away from the constant chatter and ruckus in the main
village. Everything was going fine until the younger hobbit's
figured out they could harrass him without being seen by their
parents. He grew tired of the constant harrassment and longed to go
on a journey far away from this place and seek a place of
solitude. Griffo was very wary of the
two pieces of paper that lay on the table in front of him. Not
wanting to be angered even more by some silly mischievous trick, he
thought of just tossing them into his small stove, but his
curiosity got the best of him.
On the back of the yellow
paper was written:
"Griffo, pay close attention, you
are about to embark on a long journey thru a great valley and over
a great plain. This will be a long journey with much
strife along the way, it may bring you to a place in
which you may, or may not, find an item to help you find
the solitude that you so desperately seek. Your
journey will start at a sacred spot marked with a
number on a background of the same color as the paper in
which you are holding in your hands, be sure to record this number.
Along the way you will encounter many more of these sacred spots,
all the same color. You must record the number you see at each and
every sacred spot, look carefully and be sure not to miss any,
there are 32 of this color. Some may require you to look over your
shoulder as you pass by. When you're sure you have
correctly recorded the information from each and every sacred
spot of this color you must find the average of the total sum
of these sacred spots. You shall call this
average "a".
Hmmmm, thought Griffo, this is just what I
needed. Maybe this journey will take me past a few places
to find a quieter place to settle.
On the back of the white paper was
written:
"Griffo, again, pay close
attention, there are many, many more sacred spots of a
different color you shall encounter along the way. Your
journey will end at a sacred spot marked with a number
on a background of the same color as the paper in which you
are holding in your hands. Find all of these sacred spot's
along the way and be sure to record the number's you
see. Look carefully and be sure not to miss any, there are 55 of
this color, as with the others, some may require you to look over
your shoulder as you pass by. When you're sure you have
correctly recorded the information from each sacred spot of
this color you must find the average of the total sum of these
sacred spots. You shall call this
average "b".
This sounds like I must make sure I
bring the proper tools for this journey, Griffo said to himself.
After Griffo finished packing a bag for the journey, a bag that
contained every possible item he might need, he headed to the
small stable down near the creek and readied his trusted
burro Erling. He then finished reading his
instuctions.
Griffo, it is very important that
you begin your journey soon, once the sun has set in the
west you shall be unable to find the many sacred spots
that you seek. Once you have reached the last sacred spot
on your journey you still have some work to do. Here is
something to help you find that which you shall seek after reaching
the last sacred spot.
(a+b)-4.013=c

Griffo, there is a Sacred
Place of Solitude where you may rest your trusted burro. Upon
reaching this somber area you may take a moment
to collect your thought's and read what is written
upon a few great stone's located nearby. Oh Griffo, one more
thing, do not stray from the route on which you begin
this journey or you will surely fail.
There is no cache at the posted
coordinates. The posted coordinates are the starting point
of your journey, or the first sacred spot on Griffo's
Journey. The final sacred spot is listed below as an
addtional waypoint. The entrance to the Sacred Place of
Solitude is also listed below as an additional waypoint. Solving
the equation above will give you the exact location that Griffo
seeks.
P.S. BYOP.
