Geocache Description:

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters. --Norman McClean in "River Runs Through It".

This cache is in a special location...accessable in winter and summer. However, the cache could be difficult to find in deep snow. I will not post pictures of the end result of the hike. It is near a waterfall, but I want you to enjoy the "wow" moment that I had. I didn't expect the grandeur that is there to greet you. It is worth the 4.5 miles of travelling you must do to get there. This isn't an easy hike...but there is very little elevation change on the way. You will get wet as you cross several streams including Montana Creek. Bring your fishing rod. For the fisherman, this place carries additional splendour that will leave you wondering why you hadn't visited here before. I was amazed to see salmon swimming around in the pools below the falls...what an amazing journey they must have had to get there! Be aware, salmon fishing is not allowed in this river above the parks highway. The trail is well marked. Turn East on Yoder Road from the Talkeetna spur. There is a sign notifying you of the trailhead. You could ride a 4 wheeler there if you are not up for the walk. However, there are some deep mud holes and river crossings so this wouldn't be for the faint of heart. A beaver has built a 5 foot high dam on a portion of the trail making it difficult to follow...we circled here for a while because we felt like the trail should look well worn. It was, but it is now under water. Follow the 4 wheeler trail on the South side of the beaver dam that is freshly cut through the alders. It will get you there. Good luck! It is worth the journey! Oh, there are a lot of bears in the area. As always, be bear aware and take necessary precautions. Treat yourself to a meal at Mountain High Pizza Pie in Talkeetna on your way home! The West Rib has some great burgers and beer for those of you that prefer the bar scene. The West rib has become a mecca for climbers looking to tackle Denali...And is a museum of sorts from teams passing through. I struggled to get good coordinates in the towering walls of the canyon so I placed it inconspiciously in a conspicious location. Take a look at the spoiler photo if you would like...I raised the difficulty rating due to this. The cache is on the north side of the river...
