The cache is not at the posted coordinates.
Taking a tip from "The Friendly Muggle", I planted this where my mother can watch geocachers come and go. Plenty of on-street parking available just north of the posted coordinates. You should not have to cross the busy street nearby. Minor bushwhacking to reach the cache itself, but a paved path runs within 20 meters of it.
The cache is a camouflaged lock 'n lock plastic box, 6" x 4". Initial contents are:
- some obsolete European coins in a plastic bag
- a "Way to Go" eraser
- a polished black stone
- a square dancer's string tie
- a soccer ball key chain
- an Egyptian souvenir key chain
- a curling badge
- two short mechanical pencils
- log book
- two geocoins
- a Tim Horton's gift certificate for the F2F.
Point A is at the posted coordinates. Point A is at the centre of a lazy counter-clockwise spiral, which advances thirty-three and a third meters from the centre per complete turn. Points B and C are located on the same turn of the spiral. Point C is the cache location.
Beside Point A is a light standard, on which there is a metal plaque with some numbers. One of them is the Job#, another is the year of installation. Point B has the coordinates:
N 45° 23.x' W 075° 39.y', where x and y are 3-digit numbers.
To calculate the coordinates of Point B, do the following:
1.Divide the Job# by 1000 and discard the fractional part. The result plus x is equal to 926.
2.Add up all the digits of the Job# and multiply the result by 10.
3.Divide the installation year by 2, and discard the zero digits from the result. You should end up with a number having fewer than four digits.
4.Add the results of steps 2 and 3 to 510 to give you y.
Beside Point B is a bus stop. Note the bus stop number (a four digit number) on the sign. Subtract 2160 from the bus stop number to get the bearing in mils from Point A to Point C, the cache location.
You should be able to work out the cache location, Point C, from the above information, using the capabilities of your GPS for the final step.
WARNING: A family of coyotes are seen regularly in the area. People with small children and small dogs take note. (More benignly, there are also foxes around. The coyotes are a recent development.)
