Geocache Description:

Congrats to Milomarvelous & JB71 for co- FTF

Welcome to the Stanton Park neighborhood of northeast D.C. This area is home to many members of Congress and their staff. In fact, President Obama lived in Stanton Park while he was a member of the Senate.

The park is named after Edwin Stanton, President Lincoln’s Secretary of War. Located in the center of Stanton Park is a statue of Revolutionary War Major General Nathaniel Greene. The park was included in Pierre L'Enfant's original plan for the city and is maintained by the National Park Service.

Of course, the cache is not hidden at the park, but can be found at another green space just a block away.

Certainly, some see it as a community garden. But those who tend to its crops know it to be an Urban Oasis. Here you can find tomatoes, beans, squash, okra, herbs and sunflowers growing at any given time. Community gardens, such as the Hilton Garden, provide access to fresh produce and plants as well as access to satisfying labor, neighborhood improvement, sense of community and connection to the environment. Plus, they are kind of neat to discover in between the old buildings.

Enjoy.
