A nice easy 3 part Multi Cache on a circular walk around Fens Pool
Originally the pools were built as feeder reservoirs for the canal system.
Buckpool and Fens Pool Nature Reserve has an outstanding variety of wildlife and is very popular with walkers, cyclists, anglers and bird watchers so beware of muggles.
Ok for geo-kids as long as there supervised.
This Multi consists of a virtual 1st part then a micro 2nd and a magnetic tobacco tin final cache.
Cache contents are a log book and pencil, and a few swaps.
All caches are close to paths and the walk is about 1 mile and should take less than 1hour.
Plaese note that all three stages need to be found and the log signed in the final cache to claim a smiley! (all other logs will be deleated)
Parking can be found at Fens Pool Centre, Tennyson St and other nearby caches include Waerter off an Osses back and Pools View.
Note! The best way to approach this cache is to take the path from the car park, up between the pools to stage 1 then follow the path around the pool anti-clockwise. After finding stage two continue your walk around the pool staying on the top path that will take you to the final cache.
Stage one takes you near to an interesting piece of metal which originates from a spillage from one of the furnace's at the former Round Oak Steel Works. When this happened old railway wheels were lowered into the molten metal so that once it had cooled down it was easier to sling it with ropes/chains to lift it out of the hole and then it could be burned up into smaller pieces and re-charged into the furnace.
This is a high Muggle area so great stealth is required here!
