An easy find along the Twin Streams walk in Henderson (Opanuku Stream)
The Twin Streams Project covers 56kms of streambanks of the Opanuku and Oratia Streams. Community groups have worked clearing, planting and maintaining areas along the banks.
This cache is on the banks of the Opanuku Stream, named for an early chief of the area, Panuku. His wife was Parekura and her role was to nurture the young people of the tribe. The Parekura Stream joins the Opanuku Stream further up Henderson Valley.
Our patch has been planted, weeded, mulched and cared for by the students of the Parekura Centre at Henderson High School. All the students have special needs. They made the mozaic tiles by the side of the path.
You can continue your walk up either side of the stream to Border Rd (if you take this side, there is a small dogleg into Keeling Ave, where you will pick up the track again.)
The cache is a 1 litre camouflaged container. When placed it contained a ship in a bottle, a dolphin charm, a yacht charm, some kids games and several items from Henderson High School.
Pinball Wizard (Cathy) and Mistcube (Kamla) are respectively the student's teacher and teacher aide. We are proud of what they have achieved. Please enjoy their area and their art.
