This cache has been archived.

Growly Bear: As this cache has been out of action for too long, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. Geocache Description:

Nestled among a maze of Kauere and Nikau - follow the coordinates - look for the 'obvious' hiding places and you'll find it. May get muddy/slippery in rain.

My first cache - so thought I would make it an interesting one! (and hopefully not too much of a history overload ;) )

No School or Town Hall, General Store, Baker, Butcher or Boarding House remain in what was once the thriving little mining community of Kiripaka.
This ghost town shows few scars of its busy past - no more coal hoppers on the bank of the river, no scows, tugs or barges littering the waters of the Ngunguru River, just the odd scrap of framework will you see now, if you look hard enough.
As the Chairman of the Northern Coal Co. described it in the Northern Advocate in 1906 during his speech for the opening of the new tramway - "Kiripaka is the coming Newcastle of New Zealand".
The Kiripaka Coal Mines began in 1892 and ended in 1921 -several were found with several hundreds of thousands of tons being excavated from them.
The school had roughly 50-60 pupils and was situated on the rise above the mass of arrum lillies you will still see today on the side of the main road - you can't miss them.

Took me a while to get the most accurate coordinates - but hopefully these will put you in the right direction! An easy find and have come up with a Ludzy theme for the First to Find.
If all else fails - the clue may help - pay attention to the wording.
