This multi-cache takes you to various parts of the popular Queen
Elizabeth Park and adjoining sports ground in Masterton.
(This cache is a replacement for a similarly named and located
cache which went missing soon after it was placed - the final
location had been chosen with "adult obscurity" in mind, but
unfortunately I forgot to consider the likelihood of children
looking there! As the final location of this one is of
significantly different nature, I opted to archive the original and
create this replacement.)
Each of the initial 5 waypoints of this cache is somehow
"associated" with one of the Spice Girls ... for the purpose of
this multi-cache, anyway. (Be warned: one or two "associations" are
bit tenuous!)
(Let me get one thing clear: I am NOT and NEVER have been a
Spice Girls fan ... they just happen to be a convenient theme for
this cache!)
Starting from the published co-ordinates, which place you in a
car park accessed from Columbo Road, that suggested order of
waypoints is as follows ...
Sporty Spice:
Here is the Park Sports field, where various sports are played and
practiced during the year, including rugby, soccer (or football, to
some of our overseas visitors), and cricket.
- Count the number of seats on top of the embankment opposite here
(don't include those further along).
Posh Spice:
This building is the club rooms for the Douglas Villa soccer club,
which originated from children living in Villa Street who met and
played soccer at Douglas Park. The club currently caters for soccer
players from 5 to 50+ years old.
- Count the number of steps in the staircase (don't include the
bottom or top landings).
Scary Spice:
This is the Masterton cemetery, which as you can seen from the
nearby graves, is very old. (You don't need to enter it for this
cache.)
- Count the number of old style lamp post in front of the
cemetery.
Ginger Spice:
This building is was originally the cricket pavilion for the nearby
oval. There is a plaque a few metres from you to tell you a bit
more about it. These days it is a restaurant that serves some very
yummy food, and I'm sure they would have some ginger in the
kitchen.
- Which King George is on the plaque?
Baby Spice:
Sit here and have a rest ... you are just outside the entrance to
Tot Lot, the "junior" part of this children's playground. The newer
part of this playground was built by the Masterton community, with
many people volunteering their time to assist with its
construction.
- How many swings in Tot Lot?
To find the final, calculate the following ...
S 40° 57.(Ginger - Baby)(Posh x Baby)'
E 175° 40.(Posh ÷ Ginger)(Scary - Sporty)(Baby - Scary)'
If you park the the main Queen Elizabeth Park car park (waypoint
P2 / CARPK2 / Car park B), then I suggest you visit the initial
waypoints in the opposite order (Baby, Ginger, Scary, Posh,
Sporty).
The cache is a 375ml plastic peanut butter jar. (Initial
contents includes log book, mini-pen, pencils, pencil sharpener,
geocaching info sheet, star ornament, whistle, and spinning
top.)
The cache is in a location that may be considered risky for
young children, though there is room for them to wait and/or play
safely a few metres away.
Please remember geocaching's trading etiquette:
- Trade equal, trade up, or don't trade.
Please use stealth when necessary, and re-hide the cache well to
prevent vandalism and theft.
There are 4 other caches in the vicinity of this park that you may
