Milford Haven was founded as a whaling centre in the 18th century. The town port is one of the largest in the U.K. in terms of tonnage, and plays an important role in the U.K.'s energy sector with several oil refineries and one of the biggest L.N.G. terminals in the world. The sheltering estuary measuring 22 miles is one of the deepest natural harbours in the world and affords excellent sailing opportunities throughout the year.
Milford Haven marina was built in 1991 and boats moor on the floating pontoons. There is also a good selection of shops and cafes around the marina itself.
