Geocache Description:

This cache is placed at the entrance to the Occoneechee Scout Reservation. Please respect all signs regarding entrance to the property.

This cache marks the entrance to one of three Boy Scout camps operated by the Occoneechee Council based in Raleigh, NC. The other camps are Camp Reeves, located nearby and Camp Campbell, located near the Virginia border on Kerr Lake. Currently known as Camp Durant, this location is actually the second home to scouts from this area, the first Camp Durant actually being in Raleigh and now operated as a City nature park.

Geocaching has become a natural element in the Scouting program, with the advancement and affordability of GPS units and smart phones, Scouts can now extend basic map, compass and orienteering skills to the next level of navigation. Even Groundspeak has embraced the relationship between the two organizations and promoted such other web sites such as Geoscouting: (visit link) and the online promotion (visit link) for Scouts to obtain a free 30 day premium membership.

In 2010, the Boy Scouts released a number of travel bugs and trackable geocoins to promote the 100th year of scouting in the United States.

The Boy Scout Oath emphasizes three major promises: Duty to God and Country, Duty to others and duty to self. With these in mind, it should be easy to find this cache.
