Standing at 432 metres high, the Omega tower was the highest man made structure in the southern hemsiphere. It was built as navigational aid to aircraft and shipping in the the early eighties.
Navigators (sea and air) used the tower as a triangulation point with other similar towers located in Argentina, Norway, Liberia, France, Japan, North Dakota and Hawaii.
Unlike the current GPS this system had an accuracy of 2 to 5 kilometres. Imagine caching with that system!
The death of a base jumper saw the tower's ultimate demise and it was destroyed on April 22nd 2015. All that remains is the antenna housing.

The cache container is an 1.2 litre sistema container. It is located outside the grounds. There is adequate room to park at the front Gate. A lot of motorists treat this road like a speedway so take care near the road.
The tower site is on private propery.
