A rural park and camping ground that gets little use. A play ground for the kids and tennis courts for all (bring your own gear). A very sheltered camping site, with limited facilities.
Drive in and park on the grass under the trees, please try not to make mud if the ground is wet.
Powered motorhome sites are available for a small cost,
The sign at the gate says that the gate will be closed at night, I have never known it to be locked, if it is locked you should be able to walk, however there is another way in, look for the tennis courts.
Te Ngutu O Te Manu Battlesite and Historic Reserve.
Te Ngutu O Te Manu means "the beak of the bird". It was an important centre for the Ngaruahine iwi. Te Ngutu O Te Manu was the base from which Titokowaru lead the Maori campaign against government land confiscation in South Taranaki. It was attacked by the Armed Constabulary as retribution for the attack by Titokowaru on Turuturu Mokai. During the attack, Major Gustavus Von Tempsky was killed and a memorial to him and other casualties of the battle is located in the grounds.
